Dr. Jasbir Singh

Biography

Dr Jasbir Singh is the current Director of the Government Scientific Advisors Office at the National Research Foundation, Prime Minister’s Office in Singapore. His extensive portfolio encompasses critical areas such as the National Research Infrastructure, Foundational Research Capability, and various cross-domain initiatives.

 

Previously, Dr. Singh held the position of Director at the President’s Office at Nanyang Technological University, where he played a key role in research strategy planning, development, and governance. He also took charge of coordinating major research programs and spearheading infrastructure development, including NTU’s space planning and allocation. His professional journey also included significant contributions to strategic planning and research at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (ASTAR). Here, he held several pivotal positions, including Director of the Engineering Cluster for the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), the Organisational Development and Planning Division, and Research Grants and Capability Development. Additionally, he served as Deputy Executive Director at ASTAR’s Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE). His career began as a Research Scientist with the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and included valuable experience at Seiko-Epson Corporation in Japan.

 

Dr. Singh holds a double Bachelor’s degrees in engineering and computational mathematics, along with Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. He is a distinguished member and Professional Engineer of the Professional Engineer Board (P.Eng), a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (F.I. Mech. E.), and a Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council, UK (C.Eng).

 

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Singh actively engages in community and social endeavours. He serves as a Deputy Registrar of Marriages for the Ministry of Social and Family Development., is a Member of the Films and Art’s Consultative Panel (F&ACP) Infocomm Media Development Authority, Vice President of the Fuyong Estate Networking Committee in the Holland – Bukit Panjang (Cashew) GRC and is a dedicated leader within the Sikh Community. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was conferred the National Day Commendation Medal in 2007.
