Dr Heiko Aydt
Lead Investigator of Digital Urban Climate Twin R&D at Cooling Singapore, Singapore-ETH Centre
Dr Heiko Aydt is a computational scientist with expertise in modelling and simulation as well as computer science with focus on software engineering of distributed systems. He joined the Singapore-ETH Centre in 2015 and currently leads the research and development of the Digital Urban Climate Twin for Singapore to support urban planners and policy makers in their efforts to address the urban heat challenge. He is also part of the Future Cities Lab (FCL) Global programme where he investigates the use of blockchain technology to create digital building assets in his role as co-investigator of the Circular Future Cities project.
Professor Benjamin Horton is the Director of the Earth Observatory of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. His research concerns sea-level change. He aims to understand the mechanisms that have determined sea-level changes in the past, which will shape changes in the future. Professor Horton has won a number of research awards from European Geosciences Union, American Geophysical Union and Geological Society of America. Professor Horton is an editor for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report. Professor Horton has published over 230 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Nature and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Prof Jeff Obbard is Head of the Climate Science Research Office at the Centre for Climate Research Singapore, and a Visiting Professor to the School of Water, Energy & Environment at Cranfield University,UK. Prior to this, Jeff was a professor & director at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), where he also held a joint appointment with the Agency for Science Technology & Research (A*STAR) as the Principal Scientist of its Renewable Bioenergy Programme. He was the Vice President for Science & Technology on a Royal Dutch Shell Petroleum joint-venture project in Hawaii, USA on renewable biofuels and carbon capture. Jeff has also worked in the UK and Hong Kong as an environmental consultant, and in the Middle East as Head of the Environmental Science Centre at Qatar University. He is an Expert Reviewer to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and an Environmental Expert to the Ministry of Trade & Industry’s in Singapore.
