Overview

As CFD simulation requirements grow and motivate the need for higher-fidelity with more transient and multi-scale simulations, HPC must advance towards system architectures that provide practical solutions to CFD demands. This talk will examine the contributions that GPU technology has made in the current state of applied CFD, and GPU feature developments that will shape CFD directions and methods. A review on the state-of-play will include GPU-parallel strategies and performance characteristics for widely used software in the CFD community that quantifies the benefits of GPU-based HPC architectures.

Stan Posey
HPC Program Manager, ESM and CFD Solution Development
NVIDIA Corporation

Stan Posey joined NVIDIA in 2009 with more than 20 years of experience in HPC. Mr. Posey is based at the NVIDIA HQ in Santa Clara, CA, and manages the company’s worldwide strategy of HPC applications and solutions for the domains of Earth system modeling and computational fluid dynamics. In this role, Mr. Posey works with scientists and engineers to enable their implementations of GPU acceleration for applications that will pave the way towards exascale HPC. Prior to joining NVIDIA, Mr. Posey contributed in applied HPC with end-user roles at US DOE Oak Ridge National Laboratory and CD-adapco, and vendor technical roles at SGI, Panasas, and Control Data. Mr. Posey earned B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA.
