In collaboration with the National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore and National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) Australia, the HPC-AI Advisory Council recently concluded the 7th APAC HPC-AI Student Competition. The regional event challenged student teams to tackle real-world problems in HPC and AI, including tasks like HOOMD-blue, a particle simulation toolkit, and Llama 2, Meta AI’s large language model with up to 70 billion parameters.
Teams were provided with state-of-the-art supercomputing resources and technical guidance from industry leaders, enabling them to achieve remarkable performance improvements through creative problem-solving. This year also saw the competition’s first all-women team, a milestone reflecting the growing diversity in HPC and AI.
The competition continues to equip students with invaluable hands-on experience in cutting-edge supercomputing systems, preparing them to tackle real-world challenges in computation science and AI. These initiatives are critical in fostering the innovation and leadership needed to drive advancements in computational science. Congratulations to all the teams for their outstanding contributions and accomplishments in the 2024 competition!
